While we might not be on the beach soaking up the Mexican sun, we have been making lots of Palomas and reminiscing about the good times. With all of our time spent at home lately, we found ourselves longing to go back to Isla. In fact, one afternoon after exploring the nearby beaches and then lounging by the pool, we found ourselves stopping by the bar just in time for happy hour, where we happily drank Paloma after Paloma and watched the sunset from the rooftop deck. The drink menu at the bar had lots of delicious specialty cocktail options, but my and Steve’s favorite quickly became the Paloma. So it seemed like just about every time we were on our way past, whether it was getting back from a day at the beach clubs or getting ready to head out to dinner, we would find an excuse to stop for a drink. And since it was Mexico, the already cheap prices were impossible to pass up when we were getting the second drink free. The condo complex we were staying at had a cute little bar that had a two-for-one happy hour every day. Palomas have a special place in my heart, but it wasn’t really until our trip to the tiny island of Isla Mujeres a little over a year ago that my obsession began. Sorry, I’ve just been rather….thirsty.With citrusy grapefruit, tequila, tart limes, and just a hint of sweetness and fizz, my Palomas by the pitcher are a quick and easy paloma recipe that is perfect for entertaining or your next get together. I promise I’ll post recipes for actual FOOD soon. Personally, I find it a little more refreshing. If you like grapefruit, this drinks for you! It’s kinda like a margarita minus the triple sec. Everything post La Paloma that night is a little fuzzy. I see a La Paloma on their cocktail list and then I remember Justine’s…and the dangerous child that wasn’t to be….and….that’s it. I’m at a bar in San Francisco with Adam and one of my best friends from childhood, John. Long story short, they gave me the wrong drink! Instead of the dangerous child that I had ordered, I got my very first La Paloma-a fizzy, grapefruity tequila cocktail.įlash forward three weeks. I think it was called “L’Enfants Dangerous” or something along those lines. So instead, I decided to just pick a totally random cocktail from the list and go with it. However, I was wearing white at the time. Maybe I should just order a safe glass of red wine, I thought to myself. When it was my turn to order a drink, I almost froze like usual. Let’s just say it was waaaaay too cool for me. Well, the thing about Justine’s is that on top of their wonderful French food, they have probably the most amazing bar and cocktail list that I’ve ever seen. (sidenote: they quoted us an hour and a half wait and it ended up only being twenty minutes <-go there!). We were with our friends, Morgan and Stephen, and since they don’t take reservations, we opted to hang out at the bar until our table was ready. It all started when we were in Austin over New Years and ate at the fabulous Justine’s Brasserie. So, remember when I was saying last week how I’m incredibly socially awkward at bars, never know what to order and end up with an icky rum and coke and a headache?
